Pune, 11 Oct: The return of monsoon showers in Maharashtra has brought fresh concerns, with Mumbai experiencing heavy rainfall on Thursday evening, accompanied by thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city. Changing weather conditions are being observed across the state, with rain expected in several districts in the coming days.

Mumbai Faces Challenges Due to Sudden Downpour

The unexpected downpour in Mumbai caused significant disruptions for residents, especially during their commute home. Heavy rains persisted across the city and suburbs, leading to waterlogging in several areas, including Hindmata. While road traffic slowed, the local train services remained largely unaffected. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and more rain for the next 24 hours, prompting the yellow alert.

Light Rain Expected in Pune and Surrounding Areas

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall for Pune and other parts of Maharashtra. Districts like Vidarbha are expected to see rain on the 9th and 10th of October, while areas like Khandesh, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Pune will experience showers on the 10th and 11th of October. A break in weather conditions is anticipated from the 14th of October.

Rainfall Predictions Across Maharashtra

In the next 24 hours, districts such as Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are likely to experience rain with thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for Kolhapur and Satara due to the possibility of heavy rainfall. Light rain may continue in the Konkan region, including Mumbai, until the 13th of October due to moisture from the seas.

Vidarbha Weather Outlook

The Nagpur Regional Office of the IMD has predicted rain in Vidarbha over the next couple of days, with clearer weather anticipated by the 15th of October. With crops ready for harvest, farmers across Maharashtra are being urged to take precautions, as unseasonal rain could pose risks to their crops.
