Pune Crime News: Three suspects have been arrested for assaulting a young woman at Bopdev Ghat.

Pune News: In the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case, Pune police have apprehended one suspect involved in the sexual assault of a young woman. Preliminary reports indicate that two additional suspects have also been taken into custody.

Despite the progress, Pune’s Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma clarified that no formal arrests had been made yet. The investigation has seen substantial efforts from the Pune Crime Branch, which has deployed over 300 officers and staff members to locate the suspects. The incident occurred on Thursday, October 3, when a college student went for a walk with her friend around 11 PM. During this time, three assailants threatened them with a knife and assaulted them with bamboo sticks. The suspects restrained the male companion using his shirt and belt before proceeding to commit the assault on the young woman.

In a bid to gather critical information, Pune police compiled data from around 3,000 mobile phone users who traveled through Bopdev Ghat during the incident. They also collected CCTV footage from the area, employing AI technology for technical analysis. Assistance from private cyber experts was enlisted to enhance their investigative efforts. Since the incident, Pune police have been mobilizing 60 teams to search for the suspects. While initial leads were challenging to trace, police sources have reported that recent breakthroughs have aided in locating the offenders. (Pune News Latest)
