Pune, 15 Oct: A prominent IT company in Pune, Cybage Software, has come under scrutiny for causing water and noise pollution during a construction project. Following complaints from local residents, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a notice to the company. The project, located in Wadgaon Sheri, involves ongoing construction, which has led to significant environmental concerns. Despite being asked for a response, the company has remained silent on the matter.
Local residents of Kumar Kruti Society, Wadgaon Sheri, lodged complaints with the MPCB, stating that the construction work by Cybage Software was causing severe water and noise pollution. In response, MPCB officials visited the site and found multiple violations of environmental regulations. As a result, the board has issued a legal notice, questioning why the company should not face penalties for these infractions.
One of the primary concerns raised was the use of explosives during excavation work at the site, for which the company has not obtained the necessary clearance. Additionally, no measures have been taken to control the dust and noise pollution arising from the construction activities. The residents have been suffering due to the excessive noise and dust, which has worsened their living conditions.
Moreover, the company has failed to build a protective wall around the construction site. The excavation has also led to water being discharged into a nearby drainage system, causing further environmental hazards. The MPCB notice highlights these issues and demands a response from Cybage within seven days.
Jagannath Salunkhe, Regional Officer of MPCB, stated, “A notice has been issued to Cybage for violating environmental norms. The company has been asked why their bank guarantee should not be seized or legal action initiated against them.”
Residents like Munir Vastani of Kumar Kruti Society voiced their frustrations, saying, “Cybage has begun construction without the necessary no-objection certificate from the society. We are facing serious issues due to the noise and air pollution generated by their project.”
This incident has raised serious concerns about environmental compliance in the city’s booming construction industry, with local authorities now stepping in to ensure companies like Cybage adhere to pollution control regulations.
