Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: As the political landscape shifts in Maharashtra, the upcoming Shirur Assembly Election is gaining attention, especially following a split within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Incumbent MLA Adv. Ashok Pawar, who has chosen to align himself with veteran leader Sharad Pawar, is now seen as a strong contender for the upcoming election.
Sharad Pawar’s Commitment
During a recent campaign rally for the Lok Sabha elections, Sharad Pawar reassured the electorate that Shirur taluka would not be sidelined from receiving a ministerial position. This statement has solidified expectations around Ashok Pawar’s candidacy, marking him as a key player in the NCP’s strategy for the upcoming assembly polls.
The NCP’s position in the Shirur constituency is perceived as robust, bolstered by a margin of 27,000 votes in the Lok Sabha elections. This success has reinforced the belief that the party, under Sharad Pawar’s leadership, remains a formidable force.
Local Political Dynamics
Adv. Ashok Pawar’s continued association with Sharad Pawar places him in a favorable position as the NCP’s candidate. He previously held control of the Ghodganga Sugar Factory for 25 years, although the factory has since faced closure. This history adds a layer of complexity to his political narrative.
The BJP, on the other hand, is strategizing for a strong campaign, with names like Jayashree Palande, a director of the district bank, and Pradeep Kand emerging as potential candidates. The political rivalry is heating up as former NCP member Dada Patil Farate has recently joined the NCP, anticipating that the constituency will remain within the party’s purview.
