Maharashtra Weather Update: After a scorching week, relief is on the way for Mumbai residents, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for rain showers over the weekend. Mumbai, along with neighboring districts like Thane and Palghar, is set to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning on Saturday and Sunday.

Over the past few days, Mumbai has faced rising temperatures, with the heatwave making life uncomfortable for many. However, cloud cover since Friday afternoon brought some respite, and brief rain showers helped cool things down further. Now, the weekend looks set to bring more significant rainfall. Rain Alert for Coastal Maharashtra

The IMD had predicted additional rainfall for the Konkan region, including Goa’s coastline, during October. As expected, Goa has already received 110% more rainfall than the usual in just the first 18 days of the month. Similarly, several parts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri have also recorded above-average rainfall this October.

Widespread Showers Across Maharashtra

The rain is not confined to Mumbai. Several districts in Maharashtra, including Nashik, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, are also on high alert for rain showers. The weather system, driven by a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea and a trough extending from South Andhra Pradesh to Karnataka, is expected to bring widespread showers.

The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms in parts of Marathwada, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Beed, and in Vidarbha, affecting cities such as Amravati, Akola, and Yavatmal.

Weekend Weather Forecast for Mumbai

Mumbai can expect rain showers, particularly during the evening hours, along with occasional thunder and lightning. With the yellow alert in place, residents are advised to stay prepared for sudden weather changes and to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain spells.

For those wondering about upcoming weather conditions, the likelihood of further rain in Maharashtra remains, particularly in hilly regions like the Western Ghats and central districts like Pune, which may experience localized heavy downpours.
