Mumbai-Pune Expressway Accident: One Dead, Eight Injured in Major Collision

Lonavala, October 19, 2024 — A tragic accident occurred early this morning on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway involving a state transport (ST) bus and a truck. One person lost their life, and eight others, including the bus driver and conductor, were injured in the incident.

The collision took place near the Kamshet police station jurisdiction at approximately 3:45 AM around kilometer marker 73/700. According to police sources, the bus from Pathardi Depot was en route to Mumbai when it violently rear-ended a truck transporting rice, bearing registration number MH 12 PQ 8748. The deceased passenger has been identified as Vishwanath Bhagwan Waghmare from Karegaon, Pathardi. Among the injured are the bus driver, Mr. Akolkar, and conductor, Mr. Khandagale, along with passengers Kajal Balu Gaikwad from Beed, Meena Suresh Kedar, and Mahadev Keru Pakhare from Pathardi. Four other passengers sustained injuries, though their identities are yet to be confirmed.

The accident site quickly saw the arrival of the Kamshet police and highway safety teams, as well as emergency rescue units, who worked swiftly to manage the situation and aid the victims. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, and an investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, known for its heavy traffic and fast-paced vehicles, has witnessed several accidents over the years. This latest incident has once again raised concerns over the need for stricter safety measures and heightened driver vigilance, particularly during early morning hours when visibility can be low.
