In the north country, residents can expect above-average lake effect snow totals due to the anticipated impact of La Niña. This weather phenomenon typically leads to a more northerly storm track, resulting in increased snowfall in regions adjacent to the Great Lakes. Recent data from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center suggests that temperatures in most parts of New York, including the north country, are “leaning 33% to 40%” towards being above normal this winter. La Niña conditions are expected to fully develop later this fall, contributing to a winter characterized by distinct weather patterns.
