Tilda Swinton: The recently released trailer for Joshua Oppenheimer’s highly anticipated narrative debut The End stars Tilda Swinton, George Mackay and Michael Shannon in a disturbing post-apocalyptic musical.

Swinton, known for her transformative performances, plays a mother protecting her family in a high-tech bunker after an environmental disaster, with Mackay as her sheltered child and Shannon as the father. Moses Ingram plays a mysterious visitor in the movie who challenges the delicate dynamics of this restricted, compartmentalized family unit.

Set 25 years after Earth has become uninhabitable, The End is a gritty portrayal of a family struggling with hope, despair and survival in solitude. As Ingram’s character emerges, the plot thickens and piques Mackay’s interest, having never experienced life outside the bunker. This intrusion shatters her sense of control, exposing latent resentments and shattering her secure life.

For filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, known for his films The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence, The End will be a game changer. The film, which he co-wrote with Ramus Heisterberg, explores themes of survival, regret and the potential of change.

The film was received to great acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival and Telluride. Neon is planning a limited theatrical release in Los Angeles and New York on December 6, followed by a nationwide release on December 13.
