Glenn Youngkin: Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced a disaster loan program to help farmers and small agricultural businesses in Southwest Virginia recover from Hurricane Helene’s effects. This loan assistance is a collaboration between the Virginia Small Business Finance Authority, the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, and the Agricultural Disaster Microloan Program.

Farmers, along with forestry and agricultural business owners, can apply for disaster loans of up to $50,000 to cover losses caused by the hurricane. These funds are aimed at helping local businesses get back on their feet and resume operations in areas hardest hit by the storm.

Eligible counties and cities for the disaster loan include:

  • Bristol
  • Buchanan County
  • Dickenson County
  • Galax
  • Lee County
  • Greene County
  • Russell County
  • Scott County
  • Smyth County
  • Washington County
  • Wise County
  • Tazewell County

Governor Youngkin emphasized the resilience of Virginia’s agricultural community, describing farmers and forestry professionals as the “backbone of our economy.” He shared that this program is part of the state’s commitment to supporting these vital industries and revitalizing affected communities. “Through the Agricultural Disaster Microloan Program, we’re ensuring these vital industries have the resources they need to rebuild,” Youngkin said.

Applications for the disaster loan program are open until December 31. Those interested can apply or get more information by calling 804-786-1049.
