Daniel Jones: Giants’ Struggles with Daniel Jones Raise Questions About Future, and Heisman Frontrunner Cam Ward Could Be the Answer

Daniel Jones: The New York Giants, once hopeful about quarterback Daniel Jones’ future with the franchise after signing him to a four-year, $160 million extension, are now facing a difficult reality. Two disappointing seasons into Jones’ tenure as the leader of the offense, many fans and analysts are questioning whether the team will move on from the 26-year-old quarterback in the near future.

Despite the sizable investment made in Jones, the Giants’ struggles in 2024 have led to speculation that a change may be in the works. In the wake of the team’s underwhelming performance, The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner predicts the Giants will target a new quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Miami’s Heisman Trophy frontrunner, Cam Ward, as a potential top pick.

The Giants are currently slated to have the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, making them prime candidates to select the young signal-caller, who could be the franchise’s quarterback of the future.

Baumgardner’s analysis suggests that Ward, who has impressed with his performance at Miami, could benefit from a year behind Jones to acclimate to the NFL’s speed. “If a team can give Ward a year to sit, watch, and adjust, then I don’t mind the idea of taking him top 10,” Baumgardner wrote.

However, he cautioned that Ward’s lack of experience against elite defenses could pose a challenge, with his tape still somewhat limited.

Despite the promising outlook for Ward, the Giants may face stiff competition in landing the young QB. Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports has predicted that the New Orleans Saints will draft Ward with the No. 3 pick as part of a complete overhaul of their struggling offense.

This could put the Giants’ hopes of securing Ward in jeopardy, especially if other teams like the Saints are willing to go all-in on rebuilding their roster.

As the 2024 season progresses, the Giants are left to contend with both their on-field struggles and growing questions about their quarterback position. Jones’ future in New York is uncertain, and while the team has committed significant resources to him, the prospect of drafting Ward looms large as a potential turning point for the franchise.

With the Giants holding onto a 2-7 record, the pressure is mounting to make critical decisions about their leadership and future. This weekend’s international game against the Carolina Panthers in Munich could be a pivotal moment in the team’s season, with many wondering if a strong performance could provide a spark or further cement the need for change.

For the Giants, the clock is ticking, and whether they continue with Daniel Jones or make a bold move to draft Cam Ward, the team’s long-term success may depend on the decisions made in the coming months.
