Pune: A leading company headquartered in Pune has taken a significant step to expand India’s defence manufacturing capabilities. Agneyastra Energetics Limited, a subsidiary of Kalyani Strategic Systems under Bharat Forge Limited, has broken ground on a new strategic facility in Andhra Pradesh.
The project is coming up near Madakasira in Sri Sathya Sai district. It will span over 1,000 acres and see an investment of around ₹1,500 crore in the coming two to four years. The facility will focus on advanced energetics, propellants, high explosives, ammunition, and related systems for defence and aerospace needs.
This development marks a strong push towards self-reliance in critical defence materials. By setting up high-safety manufacturing units and testing infrastructure, the plant aims to reduce India’s dependence on imports for key energetic systems. It aligns well with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and supports the vision of a stronger national defence industry.
Local communities stand to benefit directly from the project. Officials expect it to create around 800 direct jobs and nearly 2,500 indirect employment opportunities. This boost could strengthen the regional economy in Andhra Pradesh while positioning the state as an important hub for defence and space-related production.
Industry observers see this as a positive move for Pune’s growing defence ecosystem. Bharat Forge and its group companies continue to leverage their expertise in metallurgy and engineering to build indigenous capabilities. The new plant will help meet both domestic requirements and potential export demands in the years ahead.
