Tata Motors, one of the country’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, has introduced a large portfolio of 17 new trucks ranging from 7 to 55 tonnes to the Indian market. These include the new ‘Azura’ range and the new range of Tata Trucks.EV as well as major upgrades to the existing Prima, Cigna and Ultra platforms. These trucks not only set new standards in safety and mileage, but are also built to comply with European safety standards (ECE R 29 03). Their main objective is to increase transporters’ savings, reduce maintenance costs and simplify their work. Tata Motors has also introduced India’s largest electric truck range based on the i-MOEV architecture.
The new 3.6-litre diesel engine in the Azura range of trucks
Talking about quality, Tata Motors’ new Azura series is writing a new chapter in the Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicle (ILMCV) segment. This range is specially designed to deliver optimum performance, comfort and uptime. The Azura range has been designed to maximize productivity, safety and comfort. The truck in this range features a new 3.6-litre diesel engine, which the company claims is capable of delivering the best performance and mileage in its segment.
Features of the Azura range
The Azura range will be available in configurations ranging from 7 to 19 tonnes. These include modern styling, bold grille, stylish panels and signature trust bars, as well as an all-new walkthrough cabin, advanced interior, comfortable and safe D+2 seating arrangement, comfort seats, more storage space and ergonomically designed seats for fatigue-free driving. These trucks will be used for delivery of e-commerce and FMCG goods, delivery of white goods, transportation of construction materials, transportation of agricultural and industrial goods, intercity, medium-distance and regional logistics.
Tata’s electric truck
Tata Motors has launched a comprehensive portfolio of electric trucks ranging from 7 to 55 tonnes under the Tata Trucks EV brand. These trucks are based on the new i-MOEV (Intelligent Module Electric Vehicle) architecture. They are designed for e-commerce, manufacturing and port-related functions.
Tata Trucks.EV’s range includes the UltraEV range, India’s most advanced electric light truck. They are designed for zero-emission operation in urban, regional and closed-loop operation. In addition, the Prima E.55S prime mover enables heavy-duty operations with excellent performance and low operating costs. The EV range also includes the Prima E.28K tipper, a robust, high-torque electric tipper designed to decarbonise mining and construction operations. It delivers excellent power, fast turnaround cycle.
A truck equipped with advanced safety features
Tata Motors has set a new standard in terms of safety across its truck portfolio. All trucks in the Signa, Prima, Ultra and the new Azura range have been upgraded to meet the stringent standards of the ECE R 29 03 Global Crash Safety Standard (Euro Crash Norms). The cabins of these trucks are designed for full frontal, rollover and side-impact protection. It includes 23 India-exclusive advanced active safety technologies including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and a collision mitigation system. The next-gen connected vehicle platform enhances safety by monitoring fleet-edge real-time driving behavior.
This new truck will increase profits
The company has ensured that this new truck will increase the profit of the transporters. For this the payload capacity has been increased to 1.8 tonnes. The drivetrain has also been upgraded, with an updated 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine that delivers 7 percent better fuel efficiency. These engineering improvements are accompanied by a digitally enabled support ecosystem, increasing fleet visibility and uptime.
