Baramati: With the Maharashtra Assembly election dates officially announced, set for November 20, 2024, the political atmosphere in Baramati is charged as the Maha Vikas Aghadi and Mahayuti prepare for a fierce contest. Following a split between Ajit Pawar’s faction and Sharad Pawar’s loyalists, Baramati is poised for a high-stakes battle reminiscent of “Pawar versus Pawar.”
Speaking to reporters today, Yugendra Pawar addressed the anticipated rivalry, stating, “Whether this election will be a direct contest between the two Pawars remains uncertain. However, the response to our campaign has been overwhelmingly positive, fueling our energy for further outreach.”
Yugendra highlighted the significant support during their recent tours, particularly in the talukas and local settlements. “Baramati residents cannot and will not forget Sharad Pawar, and this sentiment has been evident in our interactions,” he noted.
With the announcement of elections, Yugendra revealed that Sharad Pawar would soon disclose decisions regarding the Baramati constituency. He discussed the symbolism of their electoral symbol, the tutari, previously known as the pipani. “While some confusion may arise due to the name change, we believe the tutari has already resonated well with the electorate,” he explained.
However, Yugendra Pawar also expressed concern over the escalating issues in Baramati and Maharashtra at large, including rising crime rates, rampant corruption, and increasing unemployment. He emphasized the urgent need to address various problems facing farmers, including water scarcity and increasing violence against women.
“The list of pending issues is extensive. Essential infrastructure, such as pipelines in localities, needs immediate attention,” he added, underlining the importance of addressing constituents’ concerns effectively.
As Baramati gears up for the elections, all eyes are on how this storied constituency will navigate the complexities of its political heritage and present challenges.
