Pune: The political dynamics in Baramati, known as the stronghold of the Pawar family, have taken an intriguing turn. Speculation is rife over who will contest against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in the upcoming elections. Notably, no interviews have been conducted by Sharad Pawar’s NCP for potential candidates from Baramati yet. However, there are talks of a surprise candidate, with names being suggested behind the scenes. (Ajit Pawar)

Yugendra Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s nephew, is rumored to be a likely contender. MLA Rohit Pawar hinted at the possibility of fielding a surprise candidate, which has further fueled political discussions.

On Wednesday, interviews were held by Sharad Pawar’s faction of the NCP to select candidates for Western Maharashtra. Present at the meeting were senior leaders like Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, Amol Kolhe, and Rohit Pawar. After the meeting, Supriya Sule addressed the media, stating that no candidate had been officially interviewed for Baramati, although a delegation had met with Sharad Pawar and proposed three to four names. Baramati: A Pawar vs. Pawar Showdown?

Ajit Pawar’s potential candidacy from Baramati (Baramati News) has left Sharad Pawar’s faction silent on their choice of candidate. Meanwhile, Yugendra Pawar has been actively touring the constituency, engaging with the people, which indicates his possible entry into the race. A final decision on the NCP candidate from Sharad Pawar’s camp will be made once Ajit Pawar’s position is confirmed.

The political battleground in Baramati remains centered around the Pawar family, as other candidates from both sides have shown little interest in challenging the stronghold.

Satyashil Sherkar’s Meeting with Pawar Faction

In another development, Satyashil Sherkar, a Congress leader from Junnar, was spotted at the NCP candidate interviews on Wednesday. Sherkar reportedly had closed-door discussions with Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, and Amol Kolhe. He mentioned that his visit was related to a request for assistance following a tragic leopard attack in Junnar. (Pune News)

Sherkar has expressed his readiness to contest the election under the banner of the Mahavikas Aghadi, stating that he would fight for any party and symbol as directed by the alliance. Rumors suggest that Sherkar is likely to join Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction soon.

NCP Candidate Selection Process Ongoing

NCP has received over 1,600 applications for candidacies, of which 1,280 interviews have already been conducted. The remaining interviews will be held in Mumbai. Supriya Sule highlighted the significant number of highly qualified candidates, including women, who have applied. Those who do not receive a candidacy will be offered positions within cooperative bodies or local organizations
