VESTAL, N.Y. — Binghamton University is having a standout year both on the field and in the classroom. From major postseason honors in softball to a record-breaking fundraising event, the Bearcats are proving they are champions in more ways than one.
Five Bearcats Named to 2025 CSC Academic All-District Team
In a major academic achievement, five standout student-athletes from the Binghamton softball team were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Graduate outfielders Brianna Santos and Lindsey Walter each earned the honor for the third consecutive year, while pitchers Brianna Roberts and Olivia Kennedy earned their second straight selection. First baseman Emma Lawson was recognized for the first time in her career.
These honors reflect not only athletic excellence but also strong academic performance — each honoree maintained at least a 3.5 GPA and played a major role in Binghamton’s dominant season. The team finished 36-14 overall, clinched both the America East regular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Oregon Regional as a No. 3 seed.
Roberts was a standout, earning America East Pitcher of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the conference tournament. She and Lawson also landed spots on the NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team.
35th Annual Bearcat Golf Classic Raises Funds for Student-Athletes
While the softball team was dominating on the diamond, supporters of Binghamton Athletics were teeing off for a good cause. The 35th Annual Matthews Auto Bearcat Golf Classic was held at The Links at Hiawatha Landing, drawing over 200 golfers and more than 50 sponsoring organizations. The event raised significant funds for the Athletic Department’s General Scholarship Fund.
Since 2016, the Classic has raised over $400,000 to support Bearcat student-athletes through scholarships, training facilities, and the VISIONS FCU Center for Student-Athlete Excellence.
Associate Athletic Director Brian Jester praised the community’s commitment, saying, “This event continues to be more than just a fundraiser. It’s a celebration of the spirit, talent, and promise of Binghamton student-athletes.”
A Program That Champions Balance
Binghamton University continues to uphold its reputation as a place where athletes thrive academically and compete at the highest levels. Whether it’s hitting home runs or hitting the books, Bearcats like Santos, Roberts, and their teammates are raising the bar — and the community is showing up in full support.
