Charles Schwab’s Son Builds World-Class Surf Community in Cabo With $60M in Homes Already Sold

Charles Schwab: While Charles Schwab changed the world of finance, his son, Michael Schwab, is making waves—literally—by building a luxury surfing community in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Through his real estate firm, Meriwether Companies, Michael is developing the Cabo Real Surf Club, a 3,000-acre master-planned coastal haven set to open in 2026.

North America’s First Endless Surf Wave Basin

At the heart of the project is North America’s first 4-acre Endless Surf wave pool, delivering up to 400 customizable waves per hour. Waves will range from beginner-friendly swells to 7-foot barrels that challenge even pros.

The $35 million basin can deliver 25-second rides, and has already attracted major surfing talent—17-year-old surf phenom Erin Brooks has bought a home on the property.

Luxury Homes from $1M to $8M

The development has already sold $60 million worth of homes, representing 20% of total offerings. Properties range from $1M lots to $8M customized luxury homes. Surf casitas begin in the mid-$2 millions, and boardwalk homes along the wave pool start at $4 million.

Michael Schwab, a lifelong surfing enthusiast, even bought his own home—a boardwalk-front property—at full price.

From Brokerage to Barrels: Thanks, Dad

Michael credits his billionaire father, Charles Schwab, for the inspiration. “He told me, ‘Invest in what you love,’” recalls Michael. That passion led to an early investment in Kelly Slater’s Wave Company, and now to the Cabo project.

Designed for Aspirational Families, Not Just Pros

Though the wave tech impresses professionals, Schwab says the community is built for “aspirational surfers”—families and enthusiasts seeking fun, fitness, and lifestyle in one place. Surfing sessions will be time-zoned for all skill levels, from kids to experts.

More Than Surfing: Full Resort Lifestyle

Beyond waves, Cabo Real Surf Club will include a fitness center, golf course, beach club, skatepark, racquetball courts, splash pads, and playgrounds. It’s also just a short walk from the Sea of Cortez.

Michael Schwab plans to launch 10 surf clubs globally, tapping into the growing market of active luxury travel.
