New York: In a heartwarming and unexpected Hollywood twist, comedic legends Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are now officially in-laws. Murphy confirmed on The Jennifer Hudson Show that his son, Eric Murphy, has quietly married Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, in a private ceremony held just two weeks ago.
The couple, who had been engaged since November 2024, chose to forgo a large wedding in favor of an intimate church ceremony with just the two of them and an officiating minister.
Murphy revealed, “Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them.
They went off and got married at the church.” While the wedding itself was private, the proud parents are planning a larger celebration soon. “There’ll be a big party, for sure,” Murphy added, noting that Martin Lawrence “doesn’t have to pay for the big wedding now,” with a trademark laugh.
The union between Eric and Jasmin brings together two of the most beloved families in entertainment. Murphy and Lawrence, longtime friends and co-stars in classic films like Boomerang (1992) and Life (1999), now share a family bond that fans are calling both iconic and hilarious.
Their children began dating in 2021, and despite their famous family backgrounds, Jasmin revealed in a past interview that they met through her uncle — not through their celebrity dads.
The engagement video, shared by Jasmin on Instagram last fall, captured the romantic moment Murphy proposed in a candle-lit room. “We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny,” she captioned the post. The announcement was met with an outpouring of love from fans and celebrity friends alike.
In previous interviews, both fathers have spoken glowingly about their children’s relationship. Martin Lawrence has praised Eric as a “great young man,” and Eddie Murphy once joked that if the couple has a child, “I’m expecting the child to be funny.”
Now, as fans celebrate this unexpected Hollywood connection, there’s growing excitement around whether the two legendary comedians will reunite on-screen. Murphy hinted to Jennifer Hudson that the duo has been floating ideas for a new project, including a dream remake of the 1963 comedy classic It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Whether it’s through family ties or box office magic, Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are continuing to make history — and bringing generations of laughter along the way.
