Flash Flood Watch: The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Kootenai County, Idaho, and Spokane County, Washington, due to a crane failure at the Post Falls North Channel Dam spillway. Avista, the dam’s operator, said that although the crane collapse caused no substantial structural damage to the dam, it did result in a Flash Flood Watch as a precaution.

Avista reported that the event caused mainly cosmetic damage and had no effect on electricity output at the dam’s powerhouse. The crane operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was sent to the hospital for treatment. Despite the absence of major structural difficulties, the Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until late Tuesday as a precaution.

According to the National Weather Service, a probable dam break may cause flash flooding in low-lying regions around Post Falls. The notice will be in force until officials establish that there are no more concerns. Avista has informed the public that the issue is under control and that further information will be given while staff do their evaluation.
