Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Trailer Unveiled: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi Star in Haunting Netflix Reimagining

Frankenstein 2025 — Netflix has officially lifted the curtain on Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited adaptation of Frankenstein, premiering November 2025, and it promises to be an emotional, cinematic feast unlike any version seen before. The first teaser trailer, released during Netflix’s Tudum 2025 event, teases a gothic, deeply personal take on Mary Shelley’s legendary novel.

Oscar Isaac stars as Victor Frankenstein, the tormented scientist who dares to play God, while Jacob Elordi transforms into the monster he brings to life. Also starring Mia Goth as Victor’s fiancée Elizabeth Lavenza, the film is already being hailed as one of Netflix’s most ambitious and emotional original films to date.

A Trailer That Blends Horror With Humanity

The teaser opens with a desolate Arctic landscape as Isaac’s Victor narrates:

“The memory of my evils should die with me.”
We then see flashes of a stormy lab, flickers of lightning, and the moment the monster is born—followed by chaos. The creature remains mostly obscured in the trailer, but a final shot shows him attacking sailors before growling out the name of his creator: “Victor!”

Del Toro, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The Shape of Water and Pan’s Labyrinth, has described Frankenstein as a story that has lived within him for decades.

“It has become an autobiography,” he said. “This film is the closest to my soul.”

“Not a Horror Film—A Dark, Mexican Drama”

At Tudum, Oscar Isaac revealed how del Toro surprised him with the offer:

“I was just sitting with him when he said, ‘You need to be my Victor Frankenstein.’ I still can’t believe it.”

He described the experience as “a banquet for an actor,” while noting that the film, despite its monstrous premise, is not traditional horror:

“It’s a big, Mexican, dark, sumptuous, dramatic character piece.”

Mia Goth echoed the sentiment, calling it “incredibly epic yet deeply personal.” She added,

“There’s so much heart in this film. It’s grand, emotional, and unforgettable.”

Though Jacob Elordi did not attend the event, his presence in the trailer was chilling. Both Isaac and Goth praised his “heartbreaking” portrayal of the creature, with Goth revealing Elordi spent hours daily in the makeup chair to become the tragic figure.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein is more than a monster movie—it’s a love letter to cinema, identity, and grief. In a world full of reboots, this is a reimagining rooted in emotional truth and artistic vision. It follows the success of other retooled horror classics like Nosferatu (2024), but carves its own path with depth, drama, and humanity.
