Houston Weather Today: Record-Breaking Heat, Cooler Days Ahead

Last updated:

Houston Houston experienced a scorching day on Monday, hitting 99 degrees, shattering the previous October 14 daily record of 92 degrees. This unusual heat wave, occurring late in the season, surprised meteorologists as it nearly matched the city’s all-time October high of 99 degrees, set in 1900. (Houstan Weather Update)

Forecasters attributed this extreme heat to climate change, with Space City Weather’s Matt Lanza calling the occurrence “astounding.” Eric Berger, another Space City Weather meteorologist, emphasized the broader impact of climate change on fall temperatures, telling Houston Public Media, “It’s hard to ignore climate change pushing temperatures up.”

Relief is on the way, with Tuesday expected to be the last 90-degree day of the year. A cold front will bring significant change starting Wednesday, with highs dropping to the mid-70s and overnight lows dipping into the 50s, or even upper 40s in some areas. The dry front will make for clear skies and low humidity, offering Houstonians a much-needed taste of fall. (Houstan Weather News)
