Jonathan Kuminga: As NBA trade speculation heats up, Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has emerged as a top potential target for both the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers. After the Warriors were unable to reach a contract extension with Kuminga before this week’s deadline, rumors are swirling around the 22-year-old’s future in Golden State, especially with restricted free agency looming next offseason.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, the Nets, with substantial cap space, could be eyeing Kuminga as part of their roster rebuild. “There’s already been rumblings of Brooklyn potentially willing to throw a big offer sheet at Jonathan Kuminga,” Fischer reported, indicating that the Nets may be prepared to offer a competitive deal that would test the Warriors’ willingness to keep the promising young forward.

The Philadelphia 76ers are another team that could pursue Kuminga, with Fischer noting that they might leverage the contract of K.J. Martin alongside multiple future draft picks to sweeten a trade. The Sixers are reportedly motivated to spend their draft capital on an upgrade as they look to build a contender around stars like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. However, such a trade would likely only happen if the Warriors find themselves in a challenging position before the February trade deadline.

Kuminga, who has shown flashes of brilliance but still needs consistent high-level production, began the 2024-25 season with 10 points, four rebounds, and four turnovers in the Warriors’ opener against Portland. Coach Steve Kerr has high expectations for Kuminga, who is viewed as a potential second option behind Stephen Curry. Still, the Warriors’ plans could shift depending on Kuminga’s performance and his fit within Golden State’s championship timeline.
