Pune, 1 June 2024: The long-awaited monsoon is set to bring much-needed relief to Maharashtra, with its arrival anticipated in the state on Tuesday. According to the weather department, the monsoon will first enter the Konkan region, including Ratnagiri, on June 4, and will reach Pune by Thursday, June 6.
Residents of Vidarbha and Marathwada have been enduring severe heat, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in most cities and reaching up to 45 degrees in some areas. The intense heat has left people in cities like Chandrapur, Gondia, Nagpur, and Wardha struggling to cope with the extreme conditions.
This year, India is expected to receive 106 percent of its normal rainfall, bringing a sense of relief and joy to the population as the monsoon is arriving earlier than usual. Currently, Vidarbha and Marathwada are experiencing relentless heat, causing citizens to sweat profusely and feel the burn of the intense sun.
The arrival of the monsoon will alleviate the heat, bringing cooler temperatures and much-needed rainfall. The monsoon’s progress has been spurred by Cyclone Biparjoy, which has activated the monsoon system over the Bay of Bengal, ensuring a smooth and timely onset. The monsoon has already made its way to the northeastern states, Sikkim, and West Bengal, eleven days ahead of schedule.
Both branches of the monsoon, from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, are expected to strengthen further starting Sunday. This will enhance the monsoon’s speed and effectiveness as it moves across the country.
With the monsoon set to arrive soon, residents of Maharashtra can look forward to respite from the scorching heat and the start of the rainy season, which is crucial for agriculture and water supply in the region.
