The assailants, who reportedly approached Siddique on foot, fled immediately after the shooting. Authorities have cordoned off the area, with a heavy police presence near Lilavati Hospital and throughout the Bandra East locality. This tragic incident comes just 15 days after Baba Siddique had received a death threat. Following the threat, he was provided with high-level ‘Y’ category security by the state government. Despite this precaution, the attack was carried out with precision and audacity, shocking the local community. (Mumbai Crime News)

Siddique, a seasoned politician with strong roots in the Bandra region, had served as a Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies and also held the position of Minister for Labour during his political career. He was elected as an MLA three times, representing the Bandra West constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 1999, 2004, and 2009. Siddique also served as a corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and was appointed as the Chairman of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) between 2000 and 2004.

In the 2014 state elections, he was defeated by BJP leader Ashish Shelar, marking a setback in his political journey. However, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Siddique joined the NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, strengthening the party’s presence in Mumbai’s political landscape. His son, Zhishan Siddique, is currently the sitting MLA from Bandra East.

The murder of Baba Siddique has sent shockwaves through the political corridors of Mumbai, with leaders across party lines condemning the brutal attack. Authorities are leaving no stone unturned in the investigation, and the motive behind the murder is still unclear. ( Mumbai News)
