NC State Fair 2024: The highly anticipated 2024 NC State Fair kicked off with tens of thousands of visitors on its opening night, marking the beginning of a 10-day celebration in Raleigh. This year’s theme, Homegrown Happiness, reflects North Carolina’s rich agricultural heritage and community spirit. The fair runs from October 17 to October 27, offering visitors a wide variety of new attractions, delicious foods, and exciting entertainment.
Record-Breaking Crowds on Opening Night
Visitors from across North Carolina poured in on Thursday evening to experience the fair’s festivities. Mia Dean, a student from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, shared her excitement, saying, “The food, the rides, the vibes—I love it all!” For many attendees, like North Carolina State University student Joshua Aycock, the fair’s unique food offerings were a major draw. “I always like going to the agricultural spots,” he said, after attending on Wolfpack Day, which featured a special $8 admission fee for NC State students.
Must-Try Foods at the 2024 NC State Fair
With 72 new food items introduced this year, fairgoers are spoiled for choice. Standout options include the Jerk Pork Belly Bao, a Caribbean-Asian fusion dish from Cool Runnings Jamaican vendor, and the Granny Cone, a sweet-salty dessert featuring maple bacon ice cream. Other fan favorites include the BBQ Deep Fried Ribs and the exotic Mexican Street Corn Potato, perfect for those craving bold flavors.
Seafood lovers are raving about the Alaskan King Crab Pop and Crab & Shrimp Bombs, while vegetarians can enjoy healthier options like Kale Me Shawarma, topped with sweet potato fries and kale chips.
New Attractions and Activities
In addition to the classic rides and games, this year’s fair introduces some new thrills, including a 210-foot slide and the Candyland Adventure funhouse. The fair also sees the return of popular acts like the Red Trouser Show, along with new entertainment such as a strolling piano.
Fair regular Nick Tabron continues to capture the spirit of the event through caricatures, a tradition he’s maintained since 1997. “Our goal is to capture that unique difference in every person and have fun with it,” Tabron said.
