PIP Increase 2025: Personal Independence Payments (PIP), a vital benefit for individuals with disabilities or long-term health conditions, will see an increase of 1.7% in April 2025. This increase, confirmed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, follows the September inflation figures, meaning claimants will benefit from higher support to assist with daily living and mobility costs.
From next year, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will automatically raise PIP payments, alongside other benefits like Universal Credit and Child Benefits, in line with inflation. The change will affect both the daily living and mobility components of PIP, with the higher daily living rate rising from £108.55 to £110.40, and the mobility component moving from £75.75 to £77.05.
This increase is designed to help claimants manage the cost of living, particularly those who require extra support due to their condition or disability. The adjustment follows a long-standing commitment by the DWP to uprate PIP annually in line with inflation, a measure that directly benefits those with long-term illnesses, disabilities, or mental health conditions.
What You Need to Know
PIP consists of two components:
- Daily Living: Helps with tasks like washing, dressing, and preparing meals.
- Mobility: Assists with getting around.
Eligibility for PIP is based on the impact of your condition on everyday activities. Importantly, PIP is tax-free and unaffected by your income or savings, allowing many disabled individuals to continue working without penalty. In Scotland, residents can apply for Adult Disability Payment (ADP) instead of PIP.
How the New PIP Rates Will Change:
Daily Living Component:
- Enhanced: £110.40 (up from £108.55)
- Standard: £73.89 (up from £72.65)
Mobility Component:
- Enhanced: £77.05 (up from £75.75)
- Standard: £29.19 (up from £28.70)
Key Eligibility Criteria for PIP
To qualify for PIP, applicants must be between the ages of 16 and state pension age and have a long-term health condition or disability that impacts their daily activities. Those receiving the mobility part of PIP may also qualify for additional benefits such as a Blue Badge or a Motability vehicle.
For those receiving PIP payments, the 1.7% increase will take effect in April 2025, marking a positive step toward supporting individuals who rely on these benefits for essential living costs.
