Pune: In a shocking incident in Dhanakwadi’s Vanrai Colony, a 13-year-old boy was injured when a revolver accidentally discharged after being knocked from a cupboard. The retired army officer, Nitin Hanumant Shirke, faces charges filed by the Sahakarnagar police for negligence in storing the weapon. The injured boy, identified as Abhay Nitin Shirke, is a 7th-grade student.

The incident occurred when Abhay, while at home on a Tuesday afternoon, accidentally bumped into a bag containing the revolver stored in the family cupboard. The bag fell to the floor, and the impact caused the gun to fire. One bullet pierced Abhay’s leg, leaving him seriously injured. His mother and younger brother, who were in the house at the time, rushed to his aid. (Pune News)

Police were alerted immediately, and upon investigation, it was revealed that the revolver belonged to his father, a retired military officer currently working as a security officer. Nitin Shirke legally owns the weapon, but his carelessness in storing the loaded gun led to the unfortunate accident.

Assistant Police Inspector Sagar Patil is leading the investigation, and the police have registered a case against Shirke for negligence under relevant sections of the law. (Pune Crime News)
