Pune, 10 Oct: Residents of Ghorpadi and Koregaon Park are raising concerns about illegal parking, which has become a major cause of traffic congestion in the area. Many buildings and homes in these neighborhoods have been constructed without dedicated parking spaces, leading residents to park their two-wheelers and four-wheelers on narrow internal lanes and alongside main roads. This is severely disrupting traffic flow and creating daily bottlenecks.

According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regulations, leaving sufficient space for parking is mandatory when obtaining building construction permits. However, several unauthorized constructions in Ghorpadi and Koregaon Park have failed to allocate parking spaces. As a result, vehicles are parked on roads, obstructing essential services like ambulances and fire trucks. Frustrated residents are left asking, “Why should we suffer from your vehicle troubles?” as the streets become increasingly crowded with parked vehicles. (Ghorpadi News)

Lack of Parking Facilities in Koregaon Park’s Busy Lanes

Koregaon Park’s lanes, particularly from Lane 1 to Lane 7, face significant parking issues due to the absence of parking spaces for hotels and commercial establishments. Customers visiting these areas park their two-wheelers and cars along the main roads, leading to further congestion. Local citizens have raised these concerns with the PMC’s construction department and traffic police, but no concrete action has been taken so far. (Pune News Today)

Ravindra Kawade, a social activist from Koregaon Park, stated, “We have been in constant communication with the authorities regarding the illegal parking issues. However, the lack of action is affecting the daily lives of residents.” He also mentioned the inconvenience caused by unauthorized parking sheds outside hotels, which restrict the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians.

Shantilal Kolekar, Junior Engineer in PMC’s construction department, assured that continuous action is being taken against illegal constructions in Koregaon Park. “If unauthorized structures have reappeared, we will conduct fresh rounds of action to remove them,” he added. (Pune Live News)

Railway Overpass Parking Adds to Ghorpadi’s Traffic Woes

At Ghorpadi’s Thopte Chowk, residents are also struggling with illegal parking under the recently constructed railway overpass. Due to the lack of parking spaces in nearby homes, vehicles are being parked here round the clock, further blocking traffic. Locals have lodged complaints about the disruption caused by the constant presence of cars under the bridge, making it difficult for smooth vehicle movement in the area.

The increasing issues of illegal parking, especially in densely populated neighborhoods like Koregaon Park and Ghorpadi, are prompting urgent demands for action from local residents. However, without proper enforcement from the authorities, the traffic problems continue to escalate, affecting daily life and emergency services.
