Pimpri Chinchwad : In a significant development for Pune, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate is set to establish its new headquarters in the central area of Tathawade. After persistent demands, the state government has finally approved a 20-hectare land allocation for the project. The announcement comes after Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey presented the request to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday, leading to the formal land allocation on Thursday, October 10.

Long-Standing Demand for Headquarters Land

The demand for a dedicated space for the commissionerate has been ongoing since its approval by the state government in August 2018. Initially, the commissionerate operated out of a municipal school building in Chinchwad and later established a temporary headquarters in Nigdi. Despite acquiring nine acres of land in Moshi for its operations, the need for a larger, central headquarters remained a pressing issue for effective administrative functioning.

Tathawade Land Allotted for Police Headquarters

The new headquarters will be located on a 20-hectare land in the Valumata Center area of Tathawade. This site, part of the Animal Husbandry and Development Department’s land, has been chosen due to its central location and proximity to key areas in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The state government has finally approved the proposal after years of follow-up by the police department.

15 Divisions to Operate at New Headquarters

The new police headquarters will house 15 essential divisions, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, a police parade ground, recruitment grounds, a K9 unit, a motor transport department, a quick response team office, an armory, and a police hospital. Additionally, the complex will feature a running track, a bomb detection and disposal squad building, a school for police personnel’s children, an international shooting range, and a multi-purpose hall. The new site will also include police quarters and other related administrative offices.

Relief for Police Department’s Administrative Operations

Commissioner Choubey expressed relief that the commissionerate will finally have its own dedicated space. This new development will address the long-standing challenges faced by the police department in executing its duties efficiently due to a lack of infrastructure. The new facility will ensure smoother operations for all police divisions under the commissionerate.
