Pune, 12th October: On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, Pune witnessed a remarkable surge in vehicle registrations, with a total of 10,601 vehicles registered this year, including 363 electric vehicles (e-vehicles), as reported by the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

The festive spirit prompted residents to begin vehicle bookings more than a month in advance, a testament to the significance of Dussehra in Hindu tradition. Traditionally, purchasing vehicles, along with gold, silver, and new clothing, is seen as a way to celebrate this important festival. (Pune News)

Year-on-Year Trends

Despite the overall increase in vehicle registrations this year, the market shows signs of slowing down. The data indicates a notable decline in e-vehicle sales, which have halved compared to last year. This decrease raises questions about changing consumer preferences and the challenges facing the e-vehicle segment.

On Dussehra 2023, Pune recorded 6,144 two-wheelers and 3,482 four-wheelers registered. In comparison, this year, registrations included 6,707 two-wheelers and 2,922 four-wheelers, along with a considerable number of rickshaws, buses, taxis, and goods vehicles. (Pune News Today)

The Significance of Dussehra Purchases

Dussehra, which symbolizes the victory of good over evil, holds deep cultural importance for many in India. The festival often sees a spike in consumer spending, with many opting to make significant purchases to mark the occasion. The registration numbers reflect not only a celebratory spirit but also a desire for new beginnings.
