Pune, 19 Oct 2024 — Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, political dynamics in Maharashtra are heating up, particularly with the recent appointment of seven members nominated by the Governor to the state assembly. Among them, three belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), two to Shiv Sena, and two from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This decision has ignited a wave of dissatisfaction within party ranks, particularly among NCP leaders in Pune. (Pune News)

Rupali Chakankar has been reappointed as the Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, a move that has not sat well with some factions of the NCP in Pune. Local leaders, including Pune NCP city president Deepak Mankhar, have reportedly expressed their intention to resign in protest.

Rupali Tombare, an NCP member, publicly voiced her discontent regarding Chakankar’s reappointment, suggesting that Chakankar’s claims of being an outsider are misleading. “If she feels I’m an outsider, then she should fight from the outside,” Tombare remarked, emphasizing that party unity is essential.

“I understand that I wasn’t nominated as a Governor’s member, but there should be one position per person to strengthen the organization. I have communicated this to my superiors,” Tombare added. She reiterated her commitment to the NCP while underscoring the need for fair representation, stating that women, including herself and others, should also be afforded leadership roles. While acknowledging Chakankar’s capabilities, Tombare urged that political decisions should prioritize collective interests rather than individual aspirations. “We have the right to express our concerns,” she stated, hinting at internal party disagreements that need resolution. Discussions are ongoing among party members, and Tombare remains hopeful that the situation can be defused. “I’ve spoken with Deepak Mankhar; he’s working towards a solution, and I believe his dissatisfaction will also be resolved,” Tombare concluded.
