In a move that shocked the wrestling world, Ron Killings, better known as R-Truth, announced on Sunday that he has been released from WWE, ending his decades-long run with the company. The 53-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news with fans in an emotional farewell message.
“I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERY ONE OF YOU who was along for the ride,” Truth wrote.
Known for his comedic brilliance, legendary backstage segments, and incredible longevity, R-Truth’s release marks the end of an era. He was most recently seen facing John Cena at a WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event and appeared on SmackDown just days ago, losing to newcomer JC Mateo—a match now believed to be his last with WWE.
Will R-Truth Join AEW?
With R-Truth now a free agent, fans are already buzzing about whether he could make a move to All Elite Wrestling (AEW). While no official talks have been confirmed, AEW has a history of signing former WWE talent. Industry insiders say his unique charisma, veteran presence, and promo skills could bring value—even in a midcard or mentor role, given his age.
However, AEW’s current roster is heavily stacked, and R-Truth might instead look at a return to TNA (formerly Impact Wrestling), where he once held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. He could also continue his music and acting career, both of which he’s pursued throughout his wrestling tenure.
WWE Superstars React to R-Truth’s Departure
News of Killings’ release sparked an outpouring of love and tributes from fellow wrestlers and fans alike.
- Rhea Ripley commented: “In all seriousness, this is literally so heartbreaking… Thank you, Truth.”
- Big E added: “No one made me laugh backstage more than Ron. I’ve known this man for 13 years. He treated me like a brother from the very first day. Never saw him in a bad mood.”
R-Truth is widely remembered for his record-setting run with the WWE 24/7 Championship, which he held a staggering 54 times. He is also a two-time United States Champion, two-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and two-time Hardcore Champion.
A Legendary Career Spanning Decades
Killings’ career with WWE began in 1999 under the name K-Kwik, followed by a successful run in TNA Wrestling from 2002–2007. He returned to WWE in 2008 and became a staple of weekly programming, thanks to his unique blend of humor and athleticism.
As of now, R-Truth has not confirmed where he’s headed next—but one thing’s clear: his legacy in wrestling is firmly cemented, and fans across the USA and beyond are watching closely to see what comes next.
