Stimulus Checks Still Available in Multiple U.S. States—Here’s What to Know

While the federal government has officially ended stimulus payments, many U.S. states continue to issue direct payments or tax rebates in 2025 to help residents cope with inflation and rising living costs.

At least 10 U.S. states have implemented their own economic relief efforts. These include California, New York, Arizona, Michigan, Colorado, and Georgia, offering either monthly payments, tax credits, or one-time rebates.

In California, the “Family First Sacramento” program is providing $725/month to 200 low-income families through November 2025. The Middle Class Refund 2.0 offers $400–$1,050 based on income and 2023 tax returns.

New York is automatically issuing payments under the Emergency Financial Relief Program to those who qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Child Tax Credit in 2023.

Other State-Specific Aid

Michigan’s Working Families Tax Credit: Up to $550, based on 2023 tax filings.

Georgia: Offering $250–$500 rebates due to an $11 billion budget surplus.

Arizona: Providing aid through the Cost of Living Assistance Fund, but applications must be submitted by May 31, 2025.

New Jersey: The ANCHOR Program offers up to $6,500 to help with housing expenses.

Virginia: Still debating proposals, including tax cuts of $200–$400.

Trump’s Proposed “DOGE Dividend”

In February 2025, former President Donald Trump floated a proposal to give Americans a $5,000 “DOGE dividend” from government efficiency savings. However, no concrete plan or legislative action has followed, and the IRS and Congress have not confirmed any new federal stimulus efforts for this year.

How to Check Your Refund Status

If you’re expecting a federal refund, use the IRS’s “Where’s My Refund” tool online. Refunds are usually issued within 21 days of e-filing. For paper returns, expect a wait of 6–8 weeks. States have similar portals for checking state-level refund status.
