Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon says she has been blacklisted in Hollywood after making controversial remarks at a pro-Palestinian rally in November 2023.

Sarandon, known for her outspoken activism, stated that U.S. Jews fearing for their safety amid rising antisemitism were “getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country.” The comments sparked backlash, leading her talent agency, UTA, to sever ties and multiple projects to be pulled.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Sarandon admitted her career has taken a major hit, with industry leaders using her as an “example of what not to do.”

Despite issuing an apology and calling her phrasing a “terrible mistake,” Sarandon continues to face professional setbacks. She acknowledged that her remarks unintentionally diminished the historical and ongoing persecution faced by Jewish communities, emphasizing that she intended to express solidarity against hate crimes and bigotry.

Sarandon remains active in pro-Palestinian advocacy, speaking at rallies and urging for greater historical context in discussions around the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

While she expressed uncertainty about future roles in major Hollywood productions, she is currently working on a smaller project, a low-budget comedy titled “The Gutter.”

Sarandon also highlighted broader issues of professional fallout for individuals voicing dissenting opinions on sensitive topics, noting that many people have faced job loss over their expressed views or social media activity
