Tornado Warning: A flash flood warning has been issued for east central Lea County, effective until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, just as the area recovers from recent tornado warnings. The National Weather Service reports that thunderstorms in the region are producing rain at rates of one to two inches per hour, which poses a significant risk of flooding for creeks, streams, roads, and urban areas.

Residents and drivers are strongly urged to avoid flooded roads, as conditions can be dangerous and unpredictable. Key areas expected to be affected include Hobbs, Nadine, Monument, Humble City, and the Lea County Regional Airport.

Earlier in the day, three tornado warnings were issued for the Hobbs area. Despite heavy rain, wind, and hail accompanying the storms, Lea County Public Safety Administrator Charlie Pruitt confirmed there were no reports of tornadic activity during the second storm.

We will continue to keep you informed on this story as new updates arise.
