Wiz Khalifa: Wiz Khalifa, the popular rapper known for his cannabis-friendly lifestyle, has been indicted for illegal drug use in Romania after lighting up during his performance at the Beach, Please! festival in Costinești on July 13. While on stage, Khalifa smoked a joint and displayed messages like “Smoke one if you love yourself” and “Weed is the new wine” on large screens, much to the delight of his fans. However, the act was in violation of Romania’s strict drug laws.

Following the performance, Romanian authorities arrested Khalifa and found him in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis. Despite being released shortly after, prosecutors from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism in Constanța have initiated criminal proceedings. If convicted, the rapper could face a prison sentence ranging from three months to two years, or a hefty fine. Romania has recently relaxed penalties for personal drug use, making a lengthy prison sentence unlikely.

In response to the indictment, Khalifa tweeted, “Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

Wiz Khalifa, a staple in the world of cannabis culture, may have pushed the boundaries in countries where marijuana remains illegal. While weed may be celebrated in places like California and Canada, Romania’s laws strictly prohibit the recreational use of the drug. The incident has raised questions about the wisdom of booking the rapper for festivals in countries with prohibitive drug policies.
